Environmental
noise monitoring is a fairly basic acoustic application. In most cases
(may differ slightly from country to country) you need to log the
parameter LAeq,1s and global, hourly values (statistics, LAeq,1h
sometimes frequency spectra) over a period of time. Sound recordings of
an 'event', so that you can later listen to what was the cause of a
high sound level, has become an additional feature that is often
required. Even though the technical requirements for a sound level meter to perform environmental noise monitoring are not that advanced you will currently not find a hand-held sound level meter on the market that has been made for this application. You will find basic, hand-held, type 1 integrating sound level meters that can measure the LAeq,1s and global, hourly values but these have a limited memory (just enough for 2 to 3 days of logging) and are not able to perform audio recordings of 'events'. You will also find advanced, hand-held, type 1 integrating sound level meters that can measure the LAeq,1s, the global, hourly values, have a fairly large internal memory and some can even perform audio recordings of 'events' but these sound level meters will also be capable of performing other acoustic measurements in the field of building acoustics and they are very expensive (costs +- 10.000 EURO, 14.000 USD) The idea behind Euterpe 2007 is to use a basic, hand-held, type 1 integrating sound level meter, connect it to a PC with Euterpe 2007 and have the PC continuously read out the measured results of the type 1 sound level meter into the very large PC memory (Euterpe 2007 does not measure this data, it just stores the data measured by the type 1 sound level meter). The PC with Euterpe 2007 will also 'listen' directly to the microphone of the sound level meter and is able to perform audio recordings of 'events'. These features, combined with the very powerful timer functions in Euterpe 2007, the communication possibilities that you have with a PC and the possibility to perform logging of additional data from other external instruments makes Euterpe 2007 a complete measuring system for environmental noise monitoring, even more powerful than the advanced, hand-held meters mentioned above and this at a very interesting price. Euterpe 2007 is also intended to be brand independent as to offer drivers and solutions for all manufacturers of sound level meters. This makes Euterpe 2007 a very unique software package and to our knowledge no similar solutions are available on the market. Back |
